May natanggap akong e-mail ngayong umaga mula sa aming broadcast tungkol sa isang senior officer na bagong salta sa amin. Wala naman sana akong pakialam sa ganun e, pero nung nabasa ko ang kanyang credentials, wow-o-wow, WAKANASUSHA, this guy has been with the same company since 1968 and just joined our firm in Feb 2005. If my math is correct, that makes him 36 years in his previous company! Ang galing lang nabilib ako, kaya sinabi ko sa officemate ko.
Hmmmm…Interesting discovery, apparently, it’s a cultural thing, sabi ni “all-knowing” officemate. Ang mga Hapones pala e may ugaling pagka-fiercely loyal, apparently they treat their company/factory/work place as family, and that’s why they rarely leave their companies, and they even wear uniforms to indicate their oneness with their co-workers. It’s only fairly recent that they started moving around, due to the much-hyped, often-misaligned concept of globalization.
All-Knowing Officemate (AKO): Yeah, it’s a cultural thing, you know what I’m saying, isn’t it the same in the Philippines?
Wakanasusha (WK): No (hmmm…ano nga ba sa Pinas?) Filipinos are economically-driven.
AKO: Really?
WK: Yup, sometimes economics trumps loyalty.
(cut to thinking and reflection mode…)
Hmmmm…I’ve been a working professional for almost 4 years now, despite my age, it’s been only 4 years that I started working full-time (I studied twice! Hence, the two degrees) and I’ve been to four companies (my current work being my fourth firm). And looking back, it was always about the moolah, mukha nga akong pera $$$$$…sino ba namang hindi diba?

Aminin na natin, we are all living in a material world, kailangan natin ng pera para matustusan ang ating ever-growing needs. Sabi nga nila, pag taas ng sweldo mo, sabay taas din ang lebel ng lifestyle mo. Pero pag in-equate mo sa pera ang success, aba e ibang usapan yan, hindi yata ako agree dun. Anyway, gokongwei (syet and corny!), back to my topic. Sa tatlong resignation ko na, ang ultimate motive ko ay better pay, greener pastures. Oo siguro nga sobrang materialistic ako, pero in my case, habang tumatagal o tumatanda, padami ng padami ang responsibilidad ko, ultimately, ‘dependents’. Nagbago man ang pamumuhay ko, kaunting-kaunti lang.

Pero weird ngayon, Ibang-iba ngayon, less ang pagiging magastos ko, mas konting luho (photography na lang! goodbye starbucks at pasta restos), at mas conscious talaga towards saving. Iba na nga talaga pag magiging tatay na! Sana magtuloy-tuloy diba? Iba ang motivation ko ngayon e, mas malalim, mas sagad sa buto, kaya din iba ang determination ko, hehhehe!
Haaaayyyy…Well, it’s cultural sabi nga ni all-knowing officemate!
